The Twitter Follow Button was the first WordPress plugin I wrote. I wanted a very clean and easy way to add an official Twitter follow me button at the end of every post so I decided it would make for a good introductory WordPress project. In building the plugin and getting it accepted into the official WordPress Plugin repository, I learned all about WordPress hooks and filters as well as the WordPress settings API.

Technical Details & Takeaways
I spent the most time wrestling with the not-super-intuitive WordPress Settings API when building this plugin. Eventually I got it all figured out and tested the plugin thoroughly across many different versions of WordPress.
This is far and away the most downloaded Plugin I have written. While the total downloads are nothing chart-topping, it does feel good to know that I created something of value to other content developers and to find it in use across many different kinds of blogs in various languages.
