Granola's security FAQs say it is not HIPAA compliant and cannot sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Veterinary and fitness settings may have different legal obligations; that does not establish clinical accuracy or permission to upload confidential client information.
Business meetings that can stay within the boundary
Planning public website content, choosing office equipment, or reviewing a public event schedule may be reasonable categories if your organization explicitly approves them. Keep individual health conditions, injury histories, animal patient records, and owner information out of these notes. If a conversation is likely to cross that boundary, use manual notes or a separately approved system.
Cloud processing still applies
Granola's transcription documentation describes audio sent to a transcription provider. Its security overview describes cloud AI processing. Bot-free capture is not local-only processing. Removing identifiers from a finished summary does not undo the earlier processing.
Before a permitted meeting, explain the data flow, obtain required participant consent, and agree on retention and sharing. Stop capture if confidential records enter the discussion. Review generated notes for errors before sharing them.
